Iraq, “Province 19” and a War That Changed The World

The left extract from LSJ describes what I saw as I walked onto the floor of NPIC’s Priority Exploitation Group (PEG) the morning that Saddam’s panzers rolled across the border into Kuwait. The right extract is from the chapter in the book that describes my efforts to uncover exactly how Hussein had been able to keep his invasion plan secret for so long, and how he fooled American intelligence into believing he had designs on Israel, not Kuwait. It was a combination of good operational security on his part, and less-than-stellar intelligence work on our part. The result was a war that would change the world in profound ways which are still being felt down to the present day. And it all began 22 years ago today.
